A. GENERAL DESCRIPTION

 

In recent years, the cassava starch processing industry continues to develop and grow. Compared with potato starch, cassava starch is cheaper. Compared with corn starch, it has low non-starch impurity content, high viscosity, low gelatinization temperature, stable and transparent paste, good film formation and strong permeability. The market demand for cassava starch is strong because it has these excellent physical and chemical properties and processing characteristics. From the application point of view, most of our cassava starch is used for processing vermicelli and vermicelli; Secondly, it is processed into modified starch, which is widely used in papermaking, textile, food, medicine, light industry, building materials, petroleum, biological engineering and other industries. C. PROCESS FLOW

 

At present, the standard fresh cassava starch processing plant, its processing technology must include raw material impurity removal cleaning unit, raw material crushing unit, starch extraction unit, starch refining concentration unit, starch dehydration unit, starch drying packaging unit, wastewater treatment unit and control system unit and other 8 units, the main process can be summarized into four processes, including: fresh cassava cleaning and peeling, crushing extraction, screening concentration and drying packaging process.

 

1. Cleaning and peeling: Cleaning and peeling is the first step of cassava starch processing, mainly to remove the sediment on the surface of fresh cassava and the outer skin of cassava.

 

2. Crushing extraction: Starch is stored in root cells and needs to be crushed to obtain . Crushing is the process of crushing large pieces of solid material into suitable or fine powder with the help of external force. Common pulverizers include disc type, hammer type and turbine type and file mill, etc., and file mill is widely used.

 

3. screening concentration process: Screening concentration process is one of the important links of starch processing. The main equipment of this process includes centrifugal screens or scraper centrifuge filters, desanding and washing cyclones.

 

After crushing, the slurry is transported to the separation section by pump, where the starch is separated from the cellulose. The separation uses a multi-stage separator and is divided into 4 stages, each of which is directly connected to each other and there is no tank in between. The water content of the slurry flowing out of the final stage of the separator is 85%~95%, so it is necessary to dewater through a continuous vacuum filter, so that the moisture content can be reduced to 40%~45%, which can save a lot of costs.

 

4. Dry packaging process:The concentrated starch is transported to the drying system by the screw conveyor, so that the water content of the starch product is maintained at 12%~13%. In order to avoid the loss of starch with the exhaust gas, the drying system is equipped with a special cyclone separation device to recover starch, and the hot air before entering the dryer must be filtered to prevent air pollution of starch products. The cassava starch processing and drying packaging process includes vacuum dehydrator, airflow drying system and automatic packaging machine.

 

5. Wastewater treatment: the by-products produced by cassava starch processing include wastewater, waste residue, waste gas and cassava skin, etc., and the composition of by-products varies greatly in different process stages, especially the composition of wastewater varies greatly. The processing of cassava starch mainly produces three kinds of wastewater, namely washing cassava wastewater and starch processing and separation wastewater . Common wastewater test index include CODCr, BOD5, DO, pH, SS and CN-, etc., and common treatment methods can be divided into aerobic, anaerobic, aerobic + anaerobic and other types.
