Multiple-effect evaporation is a series evaporation operation in which the secondary steam of the previous effect is used as the heating steam for the next effect. In multiple-effect evaporation, the operating pressure, corresponding heating steam temperature, and solution boiling point of each effect decrease sequentially. In evaporation production, the output of secondary steam is large and contains a large amount of latent heat, so it should be recycled and utilized. If the secondary steam is introduced into the heating chamber of another evaporator, as long as the operating pressure and solution boiling point of the latter are lower than the operating pressure and boiling point in the original evaporator, the introduced secondary steam can still play a heating role. This operation method is multiple-effect evaporation.   • Principle of multiple-effect evaporator:

     

    Originally, it was an evaporation kettle. Later, evaporators with single effect, double effect, triple effect, quadruple effect and even more effects were gradually developed. The core purpose is always to continuously reduce energy consumption. The working principle of a multiple-effect evaporator is to use the secondary steam generated by the evaporation of the previous effect to provide a heat source for the next effect, thereby achieving energy saving. Multiple-effect evaporators can recover part of the secondary steam, and the more effects there are, the greater the amount of secondary steam recovered. This is different from MVR evaporators that can recover all secondary steam.

     

    Energy consumption of multiple-effect evaporator:

     

    Under normal circumstances, single-effect evaporation consumes 1.1 to 1.2 tons of steam per ton of water; double-effect evaporation consumes 0.6 to 0.7 tons of steam per ton of water; triple-effect evaporation consumes 0.37 to 0.46 tons of steam per ton of water; quadruple-effect evaporation consumes 0.3 to 0.35 tons of steam per ton of water; quintuple-effect evaporation consumes 0.24 to 0.3 tons of steam per ton of water. Multiple-effect evaporation systems often consider recovering the heat of condensed water or secondary steam to achieve the goal of energy saving. In the wastewater treatment process, the automatic online cleaning problem of fouling in the preheater also needs to be considered.

     

    Process of multiple-effect evaporator:

     

    Multiple-effect evaporators can adopt various forms such as forced circulation, natural circulation, falling film, rising film, and plate evaporators. They can also achieve process optimization in various combinations.

    When designed, multiple-effect evaporators have different flows such as cocurrent flow, countercurrent flow, parallel flow, and cross flow.
